How to Become a Door Supervisor in the UK: Step-by-Step

Working the door is one of the most accessible ways into the UK security industry. You do not need experience or qualifications to start, the training is short, and demand for licensed door supervisors is consistently high across pubs, clubs, events and corporate venues. Here is exactly how to go from a standing start to holding your licence and working.

Step 1: Check you meet the requirements

Before spending anything, make sure you qualify. To hold an SIA Door Supervisor licence you must:

• Be 18 or over
• Have the right to work in the UK
• Pass the SIA's criminality check (serious or recent convictions can prevent licensing — get advice first if unsure)
• Be able to prove your identity and address

Step 2: Book and complete the training course

The Door Supervisor qualification is a six-day course covering conflict management, physical intervention, legal responsibilities, searching and drug awareness, and Emergency First Aid at Work.
